Family and Friends Meet Lily...

That night Bev and Lynn came to visit us in the hospital. Beaming grandmas...

Next morning my good buddy Dave Strunk came to visit. A faithful friend to say the least...

Sierra didn't know what to think of her little sister. She was interested, yet also interested in her backpack, sunglasses, and hairbrush. Daddy was clearly a bit tired from the first of many sleepless nights...

The Haanen girls!

Now that's the spirit, Sierra.

Lily Ann Haanen Arrives!!!

At 8:19pm Lily Ann Haanen was welcomed to the world by an overjoyed mother and father. Labor lasted about 6 hours in all, and Kelly was able to push Lily out with only one push. This may make it seem easier than it was...I was praying for her like crazy when she was in the last hour. But once Dr. Oster finally arrived, she said, "One more push and you're going to have this baby." Kelly later reported, "I didn't believe her. That was my first push!" Yet with one push, she did it, and Lily Ann came gracefully into this beautiful world.

Well, gracefully until the nurses tried to clean her off anyway...

She was 8 lbs 10.5 oz and 21 inches long. A pretty good sized kid for Colorado!

"I FEEL GOOD! Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah! And I knew that I would now!"

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!" Psalm 150:6

Labor...with a Friend

During labor Kelly ventured over to her friend Shannon's room, where there we celebrating the arrival of their new little girl Adilene. The nurses walked into the room and were confused. "What are you doing up?...Oh, you're a different patient." No better way to do labor than with friends. Later in the evening Heather and my mom Lynn showed up to pray for and cheer Kelly on.

Off to the hospital...

After 39 weeks of expectation, our little girl decided to enter the world yesterday, August 2, 2010. Here is the story of how it happened. Kelly visited Dr. Oster on Monday for her routine 39 week check up. All was normal, and she even visited one of her friends, Shannon Manke, who went into labor earlier that day. Perhaps hanging out in the maternity ward gave her some subconscious ideas? We ate together at Diego Zhang's for lunch with Bev, and at 1:30pm I got the call from Kelly. "Honey, I think we're going to have a baby today." I packed up my books and computer and jetted home.

After frantically packing up for the hospital (well, I was frantic, Kelly was calm), we headed off to Sky Ridge. Dr. Oster had us go to her clinic first. Since her contractions were only 4 minutes apart, I thought this was ludicrous. But we complied and were soon back where Kelly had visited only hours earlier...

Sure enough...4cms and ready to go. Dr. Oster confessed that she thought that during her morning check up she had slightly punctured her water bag. Kelly said, "I think you're right!" Well, a little help along the way doesn't hurt...

Getting changed for the big day.

Here is Dorothy, our first nurse, getting us checked in. I'm not gonna lie. She was a odd duck. But we got admitted nonetheless. Here we go!
